Communications & Engagement Manager – Fixed Term
About the role
Port Nelson is a vital entity within the Upper South Island. Approximately 30% of the population are linked to the Port as either employees, suppliers, exporters, or importers. There is huge pride in working for it, and it is a time of exciting change and challenge, not the least because it is operating in the new COVID driven reality. The Port is also looking to increase engagement with both Iwi and the wider community, which makes this opportunity all the more exciting.
During this fixed term parental cover contract, you will be reporting directly to the CEO and work closely with senior leadership within Port Nelson’s business units. You will have full ownership of this sole charge function. The primary objectives during the term of the contract will be:
⦁ Leading and managing Port Nelson’s proactive communication and engagement activity, both internally and externally.
⦁ Co-ordinating customer events and functions, and supporting internal event management.
This is a really great opportunity to stretch and develop your existing communications, marketing, event management and/or public relations skills within a complex, high-profile, essential services environment.
A high energy person, your self-confidence and your expertise give you the ability to ensure key deliverables are achieved through your own efforts and those of others. As well as being a self-motivated, can-do person and an effective influencer, you would ideally have:
⦁ 5+ years proven experience in communications, marketing and/or public relations
⦁ Degree in marketing or communications (or similar)
⦁ Event/Project Management experience
⦁ Well-developed understanding and experience of online communications and social media platforms
⦁ Strong interpersonal and relationship management skills
⦁ Proven CRM understanding
⦁ Sound knowledge of communications and engagement tools, techniques and channels
⦁ Excellent written and verbal communication skills
⦁ Knowledge of the Nelson/Tasman region
You might be a manager recently returned from offshore who has a background in medium to large corporate style organisations and who is looking to add value to a local entity whilst expanding your own industry sector experience. Alternatively, you might be returning to the workforce after a break away and are looking for the opportunity to step back into a management/leadership function.
