Southern Cross North Harbour Hospital represents a fast-developing private healthcare campus on Auckland's North Shore. One of four Southern Cross wholly owned hospital sites in the Auckland region, the North Harbour campus includes the only private surgical in-patient hospital on the North Shore. Within our campus is the Northern Clinic which is home to a range of specialist consulting suites and treatment centres including endoscopy, cardiology services, cancer care, sports medicine and radiology.

Mō te Tūranga | About the Role

As the Ward Clinical Nurse Lead, you will play a pivotal role in guiding and supporting our nursing team to deliver safe, high-quality care within our surgical ward. This is a 0.8 FTE role, rostered Monday to Sunday. Reporting to the Ward Services Manager, you will provide strong clinical leadership, mentorship, and operational support to ensure nursing practice consistently aligns with Southern Cross Healthcare’s standards and values. This role offers a fantastic opportunity to help shape care delivery while fostering a positive, inclusive, and high-performing team culture.

In this position, you will support staff performance, encourage ongoing professional development, and champion continuous improvement across the ward. Your advanced clinical expertise and confident leadership style will be key to maintaining excellence in patient-centred care and cultural safety. Collaboration sits at the heart of this role — you will work closely with internal stakeholders, including the Senior Leadership Team and wider hospital staff, while also engaging with patients, families, and medical specialists to ensure clear communication and exceptional care experiences.

Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience

  • New Zealand Registered Nurse with a current practising certificate 
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant post-graduate nursing experience
  • You have leadership experience and a track record of motivating, guiding, and empowering clinical teams
  • A commitment to clinical excellence – with a postgraduate qualification in progress or completed
  • Advanced clinical knowledge in surgical nursing, including emergency and complex case management
  • You know your way around digital systems and can pick up new tools quickly
  • A natural team player – collaborative, reliable, and able to thrive in a multidisciplinary environment
