Southern Cross North Harbour Hospital is the only private surgical in-patient hospital on the Auckland’s North Shore. North Harbour Hospital has 8 Operating Rooms, a 14 bed Post Anaesthetic Care Unit, a modern well-equipped day stay facility unit and a 70-bed ward which includes a 4-bed intermediate care facility (ICF). Surgical specialities include General Surgery, Gynaecology, Oral & Maxillofacial surgery, Urology, Orthopaedic surgery, Plastic and Reconstructive surgery, Urology, Otolaryngology and Robotic Surgery.

Mō te Tūranga | About the Role

As our Theatre Clinical Nurse Lead, you will play a pivotal hands-on role in leading and supporting a high-performing theatre team within a fast-paced surgical environment. You will oversee the day-to-day operations of the theatre, ensuring the seamless delivery of safe, efficient, and exceptional patient care across a range of specialty services. Working closely with Medical Specialists, nursing teams, and hospital leadership, you will help drive operational excellence, support staff development, and contribute to a positive and collaborative team culture. This is an exciting opportunity for a clinically strong perioperative leader who thrives on mentoring others, managing complex situations, and delivering outstanding patient and clinician experiences.

In this role, you will provide hands-on clinical leadership and expert guidance to theatre staff, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and excellence in practice. You will support workforce planning, theatre flow, staffing skill mix, and service delivery while proactively identifying solutions to operational and clinical challenges. Alongside maintaining strong relationships with patients, whānau, colleagues, and specialists, you will champion quality, risk management, and professional standards across the department. You will also play an important role in coaching and developing team members, supporting professional growth, and ensuring the department continues to deliver high-quality care aligned with Southern Cross Healthcare’s values.

This is a full time 0.9 FTE permanent role based in our Southern Cross North Harbour Hospital on the North Shore.

Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience

  • NZ Registered Nurse with a current practicing certificate and surgical scope
  • Minimum of 3 years post-registration orthopaedic theatre experience, with extensive expertise and a strong passion for surgical excellence
  • Inspiring leader with a track record of motivating, guiding, and empowering clinical teams
  • A friendly, can-do attitude with a calm, professional presence that lifts the people around you
  • Skilled in clinical assessment, with a completed postgraduate paper (or equivalent) under your belt
  • Confident with tech – you know your way around digital systems and can pick up new tools quickly
  • A natural team player, collaborative, reliable, and thrives in a multidisciplinary environment
  • A commitment to clinical excellence with a postgraduate qualification in progress or completed. You will have your PDRP Level 4 (Expert) or senior nursing PDRP or working towards it.
