Class 5 Truck Drivers
Ready to put your Class 5 driving skills to work at Napier Port? We’re looking for experienced Truck Drivers to join the Napier Port Transformation (NPT) Project on a fixed-term basis, contributing to the movement of cargo and supporting evolving transport operations across the port.

These fixed-term roles suit experienced Class 5 drivers who can get up to speed quickly and contribute from day one.
Provisional start dates are from 21 November 2026. You’ll join an innovation-focused operation, supporting the smooth integration of new services and helping keep transport operations safe and efficient.
- Minimum 40 hours guaranteed per week
- 4-month fixed term contract, with multiple opportunities available
- Work in a 24/7 shift environment (including nights and weekends)
- You must have a current Class 5 license
- You must be eligible to work in New Zealand
THE ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
In this role, you’ll take on a range of responsibilities that are key to our project success, working as part of a team committed to safe and efficient operations.
Reporting to the Operations Manager, you’ll be responsible for:
- Transporting containers within the container terminal and between Napier Port and off-site locations (including Thames Street Depot) as required
- Participating in the phased introduction of autonomous truck operations including:
- Driving the trucks in person,
- Supervising the truck from the cab while it drives autonomously
- Remotely supervising the truck while it drives autonomously
- Operating in accordance with Napier Port’s Just Safety Culture
- Delivering services in line with customer and product care standards
- Adhering to all operational procedures and safety requirements
ABOUT YOU:
You’ll be a reliable, safety-focused driver who works effectively in a fast-paced, 24/7 operational environment. You will also:
- Hold a current Class 5 Driver Licence (essential)
- Be experienced in operating truck and trailer units
- Have an excellent work ethic
- Have a reasonable level of physical fitness to meet the demands of the role
- Be reliable
- Be able to follows instructions and works safely within defined processes
- Be adaptable and flexible to work within a 24/7 operation across a range of shifts
- Be able to pass pre-employment Health, Drug, Ministry of Justice and ACC checks.
