Class 2 Driver - Paid Progression to Class 5

This is a full-time opportunity for Class 2 licence holders who are looking to build a long-term career in transport. You'll start by operating a local delivery truck while gaining hands-on experience across our wider operation, including yard activities, vehicle movements, and freight handling. As you develop your skills and experience, McNeill Distribution will invest in you, and progress you through to Class 5, along with your Wheels, Tracks & Rollers and Forklift endorsements. You'll earn while you learn, gain exposure to different areas of the industry, and follow a clear pathway towards becoming a qualified heavy vehicle driver.

What We Are Looking For
- Hold a current Class 2 licence
- Demonstrate strong reliability, punctuality, and work ethic
- Have a genuine interest in trucks, heavy machinery, and the transport industry
- Work effectively as part of a wider operational team
- Be committed to health and safety and able to provide a clean driving record
- Demonstrate a solid employment history supported by reliable recent references
- Bring character, enthusiasm, and a willingness to learn
Responsibilities Of The Role Will Include:
You will begin by operating a 6-tonne truck and completing a local retail delivery run, which will make up approximately 30 hours of your week. The remaining 10 hours will be spent undertaking general yard duties, including washing and fuelling vehicles, assisting with day-to-day operations, becoming familiar with the McNeill fleet and equipment, and gaining valuable hands-on experience around trucks and heavy machinery.
Other responsibilities include:
- Representing the business professionally at all customer sites and interactions
- Adhering to all loading, unloading, and vehicle safety requirements
- Completing routine vehicle checks and ensuring vehicles are operated safely
- Physically assisting with loading and unloading activities where required
- Ensuring freight is loaded, secured, and covered to prevent damage or loss
- Maneuvering vehicles into position and operating lifting and tipping equipment safely
- Completing and verifying loading documentation, driver logbooks, and other required records
- Estimating weights and ensuring compliance with load limitations and safe weight distribution
