Nau mai, haere mai, welcome to Ōtātara Children’s Centre!

Located on the Eastern Institute of Technology campus in Taradale, Napier, Ōtātara Children's Centre caters for staff and students of EIT as well as the wider Taradale community. An opportunity waits for you to join our teaching team, where you will work collaboratively with other kaiako to provide an environment that supports tamariki to be competent, confident learners and communicators.

We are currently seeking a qualified and certified kaiako for our under 2's room. In this room we have a group size of up to 12 infants and toddlers, and work at a 1:3 kaiako:tamaiti ratio. Experience working with infants and toddlers is preferred but not essential. New graduate teachers are welcome to apply.

In this role you will ensure:

  • infants and toddlers are well cared for, nurtured and respected
  • relationships with whānau are prioritised and fostered
  • the early childhood setting offers a professional service and maintains high quality standards where all statutory requirements are met
  • the provision of quality curriculum is maintained in accordance with Te Whāriki, the Centre philosophy and other guiding documents

Our ideal applicant will have:

  • a provisional or full teaching certification
  • a thorough knowledge of statutory and regulatory requirements
  • a sound working knowledge of Te Whāriki
  • some knowledge of Te Ao Māori and a willingness to develop this further
  • a passion for working with our youngest tamariki
  • excellent written and oral communication skills
  • initiative and a sound work ethic
  • an ability to work collaboratively
  • a growth mindset and an ability to cope with change

The successful applicant will be supported to:

  • maintain your teaching certification (paid for by the Centre) through engagement in the Professional Growth Cycle
  • grow and learn as a teacher with plenty of PLD opportunities
  • follow your interests and strengths as you design and implement an effective curriculum alongside your team

Our generous non-contact time and excellent tamaiti / kaiako ratios support our belief in the value of providing a high-quality early childhood education environment. Additionally, Ōtātara Children's Centre is a member of the ECECA and as such, excellent leave provisions apply.
