Are you warm and approachable? Do you enjoy working in a supportive team environment and thrive on building great relationships? If you have strong communication skills, a passion for early childhood education, and love being part of a fun and nurturing environment, this could be the perfect role for you.

About Us

The Cat’s Pyjamas Preschool and Nursery in Rolleston is a purpose-built centre that offers a safe, warm and nurturing environment for children, kaiako, and whānau. We value excellent ratios and age-appropriate group sizes that support quality learning.

We believe tamariki are naturally motivated to play, and we use this as the foundation of our daily programme. Our play-based approach encourages children to explore their interests through fun and meaningful experiences. Education is a collaborative journey—teachers, whānau, and tamariki work in partnership to meet aspirations and learning goals together.

About the Role

We are looking for a motivated and flexible Centre Administrator who enjoys working as part of a team and supporting the smooth running of a vibrant, busy early childhood centre. This is a varied and rewarding role where no two days are the same. You'll play a key part in maintaining our welcoming environment and ensuring our centre operates efficiently. Key Responsibilities:

  • Be the first point of contact for whānau and visitors, providing a warm and professional welcome
  • Handle enrolment enquiries and applications, including information about fees and subsidies
  • Manage parent accounts, payments, and direct debits with accuracy
  • Keep records up to date and support administrative compliance with Ministry of Education requirements
  • Manage bookings and communicate clearly with families
  • Contribute to day-to-day centre needs including occasional support with meals, shopping, or childcare
  • Promote and maintain strong health and safety practices

This is a permanent part-time role, 20 hours per week over 4 or 5 days. Start time is from 7.30/7.45am.

About You

We’re looking for someone who is enthusiastic about working alongside tamariki and who thrives in a team-focused, collaborative setting. You will have:

  • At least one year of administration or office-based experience
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • A high level of organisation, attention to detail, and initiative
  • Competency in Microsoft Office (especially Word and Excel)
  • A positive attitude, flexibility, and a desire to learn about the ECE sector
  • A genuine commitment to being part of a fun, caring and connected team

Why Work With Us?

At BestStart, we believe in growing and supporting our people. When you join The Cat’s Pyjamas, you become part of a team that values relationships, learning, and fun. We offer:

  • Full induction and ongoing support from our National Admin Support team
  • Access to our online learning platform, Whare Ako
  • Discounted childcare
  • Subsidised health insurance, free flu vaccinations and EAP (counselling) services
  • Sick leave available from your first day and long-service leave benefits
