Mō te tūraka mahi | About the role
You will be able to share your knowledge, experience, passion and creativity with ākonga (learners) interested in Carpentry. You will create an outstanding experience by teaching skills and imparting your knowledge to ākonga in practical and theoretical settings. .
The key to your success in this role will be your adaptability and enthusiasm for lifelong learning, while taking on new challenges as you inspire and teach sustainable and well-rounded carpentry of the future.
You will:
· be a role model and mentor our learners to encourage them to achieve their goals
· assess learners and report on their capability and ability to use new technology and tools in the Carpentry field.
· teach to a wide range of learners
· be responsible for teaching and contributing towards student attendance, course guide information, curriculum development, student results, moderation, progress reports and resource bookings.
Ko wai koe | About you
You will have recent and suitable industry experience and qualifications, be used to using a computer or similar and have good knowledge and expertise in all areas of the Carpentry trade.
The successful applicant will have:
· A current First Aid Certificate
· Site Safe Passport and be a Licenced Building Practitioner or have a willingness to work towards one
· A tertiary teaching qualification or have a willingness to work towards one
· Excellent communication skills
· Competent computer literacy skills
· Experience supporting and mentoring young people, preferably in industry-based training
Candidates who have lived experience of embedding au to ao Māori and Māturanga Māori and/or Pāsifika cultures particularly in an educational setting will be at an advantage, as these are part of Otago Polytechnic’s strategic priorities.
You’ll have the right attitude and be willing to work with people from all cultures and walks of life. Safety will be important to you. We will support you in how to teach learners.
