Port Nelson is the maritime gateway for the Nelson Marlborough region – a vital hub for economic activity and a key stakeholder in the region’s continued growth and prosperity. 

A rare opportunity has arisen for a motivated person to lead our cargo services team. As the Cargo Services Supervisor, you will oversee all cargo services, ensuring safe, well-controlled and efficient cargo operations, with a focus on cost-efficient movement of cargo around the terminal and connecting to container vessels. 

The role is a diverse and varied one, where day to day you will coordinate operational activity, support shipping line requirements and play a key role in delivering excellent service to customers and stakeholders.  You’ll manage all activities from allocations of cargo storage within the terminal, to vehicle operations, to leading a small team, to the pre-planning and preparation of vessels, and everything in between.

You’ll bring:

  • Experience in port or logistics operations (minimum five years preferred)
  • Proven leadership or supervisory experience 
  • Exceptional communication skills and a passion for delivering outstanding customer service
  • Strong planning, organisation and problem solving skills
  • Confidence using Terminal Operating Systems and learning new technology
  • A positive attitude, resilience, and the ability to stay calm under pressure
