Building Technologist

Help provide confidence in the building products and systems used across Aotearoa New Zealand
BRANZ is looking for a Building Technologist to join our Assurance Services team on a contract basis.
This is a great opportunity for someone early in their building science, architecture or construction career who enjoys working with technical information, coordinating projects and understanding how buildings and products meet the requirements of the New Zealand Building Code.
The role
Our Assurance Services team assesses building products and systems against the New Zealand Building Code. This work supports the delivery of BRANZ Appraisals and CodeMark certificates, helping give the industry confidence that products and systems meet relevant requirements.
As a Building Technologist, you’ll support the reissue and revalidation of existing Appraisals. You’ll review technical information, coordinate input from technical experts and help keep projects progressing efficiently and to a high standard.
You’ll also build good working relationships with clients, project managers and technical specialists, and may assist with site inspections and manufacturing quality audits where required.
What you’ll be doing
- Reviewing technical building details and product literature for accuracy
- Applying your understanding of the New Zealand Building Code and relevant Standards
- Coordinating input from technical experts and others involved in assurance projects
- Preparing audit files for evaluated building products and systems
- Monitoring project scope, timeframes, budgets, risks and progress
- Keeping clients informed about project requirements and progress
- Working closely with colleagues across Assurance Services, Testing and Commercial Services
What you’ll bring
You may be a recent graduate with some relevant industry experience, or already working in a technical role within the building and construction sector.
Ideally, you’ll have:
- A relevant tertiary qualification, such as architecture or building science, equivalent technical experience, or at least one to two years’ experience in the construction industry
- Some experience applying the New Zealand Building Code to construction projects
- The ability to understand and review detailed technical information
- Clear written and verbal communication skills
- The ability to write accurate technical reports that are easy to understand
- A collaborative approach and the confidence to work effectively with both colleagues and clients
You’ll be proactive, organised and comfortable managing several pieces of work at once. Strong attention to detail is important, along with a willingness to ask questions, learn and work through problems with others.
