This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in protecting and strengthening our communities by delivering high-quality building compliance and regulatory services. As a Building Compliance Officer, you will work across a diverse range of compliance, investigation, inspection and enforcement activities under the Building Act and associated legislation. 

You’ll be part of a team committed to creating safe, resilient and compliant communities while balancing regulatory responsibilities with a customer-first approach. This role offers variety, autonomy and the chance to make a meaningful difference through practical problem-solving, sound decision-making and positive community engagement.

He kōrero mōu – About you

You are a proactive and solutions-focused professional with experience in regulatory compliance, building control, inspections or enforcement activities. You have a strong understanding of the Building Act and associated legislation, along with the ability to interpret and apply legislation fairly and consistently. 

Your communication style is professional, respectful and customer-focused, enabling you to build positive relationships and deliver mana-enhancing interactions, even in challenging situations. You bring sound judgement, attention to detail and a commitment to achieving practical outcomes that support both compliance and community wellbeing.

Ngā kawenga matua – What you’ll be doing

In this role, you will undertake compliance monitoring, investigations, inspections and enforcement activities to ensure buildings and related activities meet legislative and regulatory requirements. You will provide clear, practical advice to customers, promote voluntary compliance where appropriate, and contribute to timely, fair and consistent regulatory outcomes. 

Working collaboratively across Council and with external stakeholders, you will prepare reports, maintain accurate records and support enforcement actions when required. Above all, you will help deliver a Customer & Community First approach that supports safe, resilient and thriving communities.
