McKay Ltd are recruiting for an experienced Automation Engineer to join our Engineering team in our Whangarei, Head Office. Relocation packages are available for the successful candidate. Please indicate your current location in your cover letter. 

McKay is entering a period of growth and we need an additional engineering team member to meet the demand. This is a great opportunity to be involved in diverse and exciting, small and large-scale electrical projects for New Zealand and overseas clients.

This position would suit an intermediate to senior Automation Engineer looking for a new challenge. 

The successful candidate will have:

  • Bachelors Degree (or higher) in Electrical Engineering, Automation or a related field. 
  • 3 years + experience in Automation Engineering.
  • Strong working knowledge of AS/NZS 3000:2018.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems, control systems, and automation technology. 
  • Proficiency in PLC programming languages (e.g., ladder logic, structured text) and HMI software. 
  • Familiarity with various automation protocols.

Other key attributes:

  • Knowledge of electrical codes and safety standards.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills. 
  • Experience with CAD software for control panel design. 
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills. 
  • Experience in project management and automation project life cycles. 
  • Flexibility, able to adapt quickly to different customer expectations.
  • Adaptability to stay updated on the latest automation technologies and industry trends.
