About the Organisation

Auckland City Mission - Te Tāpui Atawhai exists to stand alongside those in our community who are facing poverty, homelessness, hunger, and isolation.

For more than 100 years, the Mission has responded to the changing needs of Tāmaki Makaurau. Today, we provide a wide range of integrated services across multiple sites - from food and housing to healthcare and detox services - supporting tens of thousands of Aucklanders every year. We combine compassionate service with wraparound care, supporting people for however long and in whatever way is needed.

Foundational to our work is Te Tiriti o Waitangi. As an organisation, we are committed to honouring Te Tiriti, strengthening Māori leadership, embedding te ao Māori approaches across our services, and supporting Māori-led solutions that uphold mana, rangatiratanga, and whānau wellbeing.

Over the past year, our teams have supported hundreds of people into permanent housing, delivered tens of thousands of health consultations, meals and food parcels, and provided residential care for hundreds of people on their journey to recovery. These outcomes reflect the strength of our relationships with whānau, communities, iwi, and partner organisations.

We are proud to have been recognised with the Nga Āhuatanga o Te Tiriti Tohu, and the Supreme Award at the 2023 Diversity Awards, acknowledging our ongoing commitment to creating a workplace which empowers Māori, and where kaupapa Māori approaches are valued and resourced.

At the heart of Auckland City Mission – Te Tāpui Atawhai is a belief in people, collective responsibility, and hope. We invite people who share our values and want to contribute their skills to join us in this Kaupapa.
