We’re looking for a motivated and hands-on Produce Assistant Manager to join our team and help deliver outstanding service and quality to our customers.
About the Role
This is a key leadership position within our Produce Department.
Alongside our Produce Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring smooth day-to-day operations across warehouse, distribution, and administration, while maintaining high standards of product quality and customer service.
You’ll also act as the second-in-charge, supporting the Produce Manager and stepping in when needed.
No two days are the same - you might be in the chilled packhouse helping with orders, moving product with a forklift, delivering stock to customers, or in the office answering queries over phone and email - so we are looking for someone who loves variety, is adaptable, and willing to learn.
While this a primarily Monday to Friday roster, the ability to be flexible with start and finish times and working the odd Saturday is critical to being successful in this role.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, support, and motivate the produce team
- Assist with staff training, performance management, and development
- Ensure staff are compliant with licensing, PPE, and company standards
- Conduct shift briefings and foster clear team communication
Operations & Warehouse Management
- Oversee daily picking, packing, and liaising with Operations for deliveries
- Ensure accurate stock handling, rotation, and storage
- Monitor productivity and workflow efficiency
- Maintain accurate records, including stock, wastage, and deliveries
Rostering & Planning
- Prepare and manage staff rosters to ensure optimal coverage
- Balance staffing needs with budget expectations
Deliveries & Logistics
- Support delivery operations when required
- Ensure vehicles, drivers, and documentation meet compliance standards
Administration & Systems
- Manage inward goods documentation and reconciliation
- Oversee crate returns and customer credit processes
- Ensure accurate and timely reporting
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Promote a strong safety-first culture
- Ensure compliance with Health & Safety regulations and our Food Control Plan
- Conduct inspections and report hazards or incidents
Customer Service Excellence
- Ensure high-quality service and product standards
- Communicate stock availability and provide alternatives
- Support resolution of customer issues
What We’re Looking For
- Proven experience in produce distribution is ideal, but not essential
- Previous leadership or supervisory experience
- Strong organisational and time management skills
- A hands-on approach with the ability to lead by example
- The ability to be flexible with start and finish times if the need arises
- Knowledge of Health & Safety and food safety practices
- A current driver’s licence (minimum full class 1) with clean driving history
