The Opportunity:
We have a fantastic opportunity for an Assistant Management Accountant to join our Finance team at BestStart’s Tauranga Support Office. In this role,  you will be a reliable advisor to connect Finance and Property team to ensure financial processes are completed, monitored, and communicated appropriately. You will play a key role in month-end reporting. What you’ll be doing day to day:

  • Maintaining WIP schedules ensuring the capital expenditure process is adhered to
  • Managing the fixed assets register, including additions and disposals
  • Leading the close-off process for new developments, including cost analysis and journal posting
  • Month-end processing and reporting for fixed assets, new developments, and expenditure
  • Process depreciation and stock journals monthly
  • Completing balance sheet reconciliations 
  • Providing timely and accurate reports to support other business areas
  • Assisting with the annual audit, ensuring all requested documentation is accurate and provided on time

What we’re looking for:

  • Minimum of 2–3 years’ accounting experience, ideally in medium to large organisations
  • 3-year post-graduation qualification
  • Strong background in monthly reporting, reconciliation, and financial analysis
  • A sharp, analytical mindset with high attention to detail
  • Excellent working knowledge of accounting systems
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel skills
  • Experience in process improvement initiatives would be a bonus
  • A proactive, positive team player with a collaborative approach
  • Ability to meet deadlines under pressure while managing competing priorities
  • Clear and confident communication skills – both written and verbal
  • Self-motivated, innovative, and open to thinking outside the box
