Mō Tēnei Tūranga Mahi | About the Role

The Assistant Head of School is a 0.6 FTE part-time permanent position that supports the Head of School in providing leadership, management and teaching within Te Kura Kaupapa Mātauranga, Pāpori – School of Education & Social Sciences, and Te Whare Tiaki Kararehe – Centre for Veterinary Nursing, across the Hawke’s Bay and Tairāwhiti campuses. The role contributes to programme quality, curriculum development, stakeholder collaboration, and effective delivery of vocational education. 

The appointing salary for this role will be dependent on skills and experience.

The Assistant Head of School – Education, Social Sciences & Veterinary Nursing is based in our Faculty of Education, Humanities and Health Science – EIT and reports to the Head of School

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the Head of School with developing and implementing the annual plan and achieving performance targets.
  • Teaching within the School as required.
  • Managing income, operational budgets, staffing expenses and resources.
  • Ensuring effective programme delivery, moderation, evaluation and NZQA compliance.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with external stakeholders.
  • Supporting staff recruitment, induction, mentoring, probation and performance review processes.
  • Guiding programme development, evaluations, internal/external moderation, annual reporting and accreditation processes.
  • Facilitating School meetings and contributing to Faculty Management activities.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • A relevant postgraduate qualification (Master’s or equivalent).
  • Proven leadership and management experience.
  • A strong commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and culturally responsive practice.
  • Knowledge and experience in curriculum/programme development in education, social sciences and/or veterinary nursing.
  • The ability to inspire teams, plan effectively, and achieve outcomes.
  • Strong relationship management skills with public, private, community and iwi partners.
  • High professional judgement, integrity, and personal initiative.
