Mō te tūraka mahi | About the role

Te Kura Oraka Kararehe | School of Animal Health’s core business is delivering excellent education to ākonga (learners) studying Animal Care, Animal Healthcare, Veterinary Nursing Assistant, Veterinary Nursing and Rural Animal Technician both on campus and via distance education.

We seek a suitably qualified veterinary nurse and/or veterinarian wishing to pursue a career in allied veterinary professional education. This role primarily teaches on the animal care and animal healthcare assisting programmes (companion animal strands) but will also need to support teaching on the Diploma in Veterinary Nursing on campus as required.

Your role will include all aspects of a lecturer position, including delivering courses online, face to face on campus and at block courses, marking and student pastoral care.

This role requires the successful applicant to be based in Dunedin.

Ko wai koe | About you

You will hold a relevant diploma level qualification or higher, have current experience as a veterinary nurse or veterinarian, and preferably be registered with the NZVNA, NZVA or equivalent body. International experience is an advantage. Great communication skills (in person and online), and evidence of being a team player is essential.

The primary programmes with this role have a high level of learner need so a particular interest in supporting learners that have had difficult education journeys to be successful is important to be successful in this role.

There is an expectation to be available to travel for block courses, which will necessitate several days away from home two or three times a year. The block course dates will be planned in advance.

Experience in a formal teaching role and a qualification in tertiary teaching is highly desirable; however, support will be provided to gain a qualification for a successful applicant who does not hold the required qualification.

The successful applicant will uphold our organisation’s commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi by continuously developing and upholding your understanding of our obligations and connection with Te Tiriti as an individual and as an organisation

Through recognition, empowerment and inclusion, you will give greater acknowledgement to the unmet needs of Māori, Pasifika and disabled people and their whanau.

You will have demonstrable health and safety best practices and enjoy being part of a team who support each other.  You will easily be able to build and maintain relationships and communicate well via email, phone and face-to-face.
