Animal Attendant - Hospital Support
Contract: Permanent, Full Time
Hours of work will be: 40 hours per week, Tuesday - Saturday between 7:30am-4:30pm.
Location: SPCA Auckland (Mangere).
About the role
We are seeking friendly, positive and organised candidates with excellent people and animal skills and a passion for animal welfare to join our busy Hospital team. This role will include weekends & public holidays, therefore flexibility in regard to days and hours of work is a must. The position will be busy, exciting, challenging and you would be working with like-minded people who get the opportunity to make a difference every day.
This position is split between providing animal attendant support to the hospital department and reception and administrative duties.
Duties will include:
· Assisting vets with the triage and processing of incoming animals at our Mangere Centre
· Performing laboratory testing for animals in the centre (training provided)
· Ensuring our consult rooms and incoming animal areas are maintained to a high standard
· Assisting our Hospital Reception team in dealing with members of the public and paperwork.

What we need from you
Our ideal Candidate will:
· Have practical animal-handling experience and knowledge, in particular feline experience, and experience in behaviour and basic care.
· Have an understanding of animal welfare (animal handling experience or qualification would be advantageous as would laboratory skills e.g. microscopy);
· Have excellent communication skills, with the ability to handle conflict situations and a friendly and positive attitude.
· Have previous experience working in a similar role.
· Have a flexible approach to the hours of work, and be able to prioritise and effectively manage workloads.
· Have excellent data-entry & computer skills including Microsoft Office.
· Demonstrate a high level of professionalism, empathy and resilience.
· Have the ability to work in a fast paced environment and must have a love for working with both people and animals.
· Active, physically able to cope with the rigor of the job.
· Be a self-motivated team player, who is enthusiastic and passionate about animal welfare.
· Be a quick thinker who is skilled at multi-tasking.
