Southern Cross Christchurch Hospital is the largest hospital within Southern Cross Healthcare’s national network and easily accessed within central Christchurch. The hospital consists of ten digital operating theatres and features robotic technology with a highly experienced robotic team, advanced digital scanning technologies, and consulting facilities onsite.

The hospital offers a wide range of elective surgical services including Orthopaedic, Gynaecology, Ophthalmology, Oral and Facial Maxillary, Urology, Otolaryngology (ENT), Plastic & Reconstructive, Bariatric, General, and Endoscopic surgery. The hospital employs over 350 highly skilled and trained staff to ensure patients receive high-quality care.

Mō te Tūranga | About the Role

Are you passionate about delivering exceptional customer service and creating positive experiences for others? Southern Cross Christchurch Hospital is seeking an enthusiastic and adaptable Administration Support professional to join our team. In this varied role, you'll be one of the first people our patients, visitors, and medical specialists connect with, helping to create a welcoming, professional, and seamless experience from the moment they arrive.

Combining front-of-house reception responsibilities with a broad range of administrative duties, you'll play an important role in supporting the smooth day-to-day operation of the hospital. From managing patient documentation and responding to phone and email enquiries, to processing revenue, coordinating visitor access, and supporting specialist relationships, no two days are the same. You'll also assist with ACC and Affiliated Provider contract administration under guidance and work closely with teams across the hospital to ensure excellent service delivery.

We're looking for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys variety, and takes pride in delivering outstanding service. Your ability to build positive relationships, manage competing priorities, communicate effectively, and handle sensitive information with professionalism will be key to your success in this role.

This is a permanent, full-time position, working a rostered schedule Monday to Friday, with shifts covering our service until 8.00pm.

  • Excellent communication skills and a positive, patient-focused approach
  • Experience in a reception, administration, or front-line customer service role
  • A professional, friendly, and empathetic approach when interacting with patients and visitors
  • Strong finance administration skills, including invoicing, preparing estimates, and revenue processing
  • Confidence using Microsoft Office Suite and other digital systems
  • Previous experience in a healthcare environment would be advantageous
  • An understanding of the Privacy Act and Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities
  • A flexible and reliable approach, with the ability to work rostered hours
