Southern Cross Christchurch Hospital is the largest hospital within Southern Cross Healthcare’s national network and easily accessed within central Christchurch. The hospital consists of ten digital operating theatres and features robotic technology with a highly experienced robotic team, advanced digital scanning technologies, and consulting facilities onsite. The hospital provides a first-class preadmission service, admissions services, day surgery and three inpatient wards including a high dependency area.

The hospital offers a wide range of elective surgical services including Orthopaedic, Gynaecology, Ophthalmology, Oral and Facial Maxillary, Urology, Otolaryngology (ENT), Plastic & Reconstructive, Bariatric, General, and Endoscopic surgery.  The hospital employs over 350 highly skilled and trained staff to ensure patients receive high quality care.

Mō te Tūranga | About the Role

Southern Cross Hospital Christchurch is seeking a proactive Administration Support professional to join team. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a dynamic healthcare environment, enjoys variety in their workday, and takes pride in delivering exceptional service.

As the first point of contact for patients, visitors, and medical specialists—both in person and over the phone—you will play a vital role in creating a positive, welcoming, and seamless experience. Your calm, customer-focused approach will set the tone for every interaction. This role combines front-of-house reception responsibilities with a broad range of administrative duties that support the smooth day-to-day operation of the hospital. 

You will manage patient documentation, handle phone and email enquiries, process revenue, coordinate visitors, and work closely with the wider hospital team to ensure seamless service delivery. You’ll collaborate closely with our teams to maintain strong relationships with medical specialists and assist with ACC and Affiliated Provider contract administration under guidance. The ability to manage sensitive information with discretion, prioritise competing demands, and adapt to changing workflows is essential.

This is a permanent, full-time role, working a rotating roster. Shifts may include:

  • Weekdays: 1pm – 8pm
  • Saturday: 7am – 5pm
  • Sunday: 8am – 2pm

Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience

  • Excellent communication skills and a positive, can-do attitude
  • Experience in front-line customer service or reception is advantageous 
  • Professional and empathetic approach to patient and visitor interactions
  • Strong finance administration skills, including invoicing, creating estimates, and revenue processing
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and confident using digital systems
  • Previous experience in a healthcare setting is an advantage
  • Understanding of the Privacy Act and Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles
  • Flexible and reliable with rostered hours, including weekends when/if required
