Southern Cross Gillies Hospital, in Epsom, is designed with a focus on short stay surgery and family-centred care. The hospital has four theatres, a purpose-built day-stay facility and 20 in-patient beds with ensuite facilities. A centre of expertise for head and neck surgery and otolaryngology (ENT), it also offers oral and maxillofacial, gynaecological, plastic and reconstructive and general paediatric surgery, backed up by friendly, highly professional nursing teams and systems designed to benefit patients of all ages.  

te Tūranga | About the Role 

Southern Cross Gillies Hospital is looking for a proactive and customer-focused individual to join our team as an Administration Support. This is a full-time, rostered role, working Monday to Friday between 6:00am – 7:00pm, with Saturday shifts (8:00am – 12:00pm) every third week. This vacancy has arisen as our current team member has accepted a promotion within the organisation and will be transferring to another of our hospitals 

Reporting to the Admin Team Lead, you will be the first point of contact for patients, visitors, and medical specialists—both in person and over the phone. This role combines reception responsibilities with a variety of administrative tasks, requiring someone who is confident, organised, and thrives in a team environment. You’ll be responsible for managing patient paperwork, handling phone and email communications, and supporting the smooth day-to-day running of the hospital. 

We’re looking for someone who is detail-oriented, tech-savvy, and able to work collaboratively with others to share and split tasks effectively. A strong understanding of the Privacy Act and Te Tiriti o Waitangi is also important in this role.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills 
  • Experience in front-line customer service or reception is advantageous  
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and confident using digital systems 
  • Professional and empathetic approach to patient and visitor interactions 
  • Understanding of the Privacy Act and Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles 
  • Flexible and reliable with rostered hours, including occasional Saturdays
