Addictions Practitioner - Community & Probation
We have an exciting newly created position for an experienced Addictions Practitioner to work in partnership with Probation to support Community Corrections to provide timely access and choice to AOD interventions.
Key areas of focus will be, supporting Community Corrections capability to respond to AOD related needs, engagement with high and complex need AOD-related presentations, matching of needs to treatment pathway and retention of those waiting for AOD treatment.
TToH is a whānau focused, kaupapa Māori values-based, health and social services organisation providing services across the Kahungunu rohe. Our health, social, education and community development teams have been working successfully with whānau for 37 years.
The Role
Reporting to our Clinical Manager Te Poutama Tautoko (TPT), you will be working closely Probation to provide on-site AOD support including advising on appropriate interventions. We are looking for an experienced Practitioner in the Addictions field who understands kaupapa Māori cultural practises in the role of effective drug and alcohol interventions.

We are looking for candidates who can demonstrate professionalism, be co-operative, reliable and a good communicator. You must have the ability to be assertive and non-judgmental, along with the ability to work with a sense of compassion and to relate to all walks of life. This is a unique opportunity to partner with Probation and positively impact the outcomes and treatment of whānau in this service.
The position involves:
- Review of service needs and gaps.
- Working closely with Probation Service staff - supporting capability to respond to AOD related needs.
- Engagement with high AOD-related need whānau.
- Assessment (incl Risk) - matching of needs to treatment pathway.
- Providing Harm Minimisation and Brief Intervention advice
- Caseload Management - Retention of those waiting for AOD treatment.
This is a full time, permanent position working 8.30am to 5.00pm, Monday to Friday.

Ideal candidates will have:
- Experience in AOD and/or Mental Health and hold a relevant health professional qualification and hold (or be working towards) DAPAANZ registration.
- Have knowledge of, or willingness to learn about Māori culture and protocols and apply our kaupapa Māori practices in your work.
- Have experience in delivering and facilitating therapeutic interventions for individuals or groups with Addictions.
- Experience with report writing and effective client and caseload management.
- Previous experience working with whānau in our community.
- A Full, current Driver’s license
- Be Vaccinated for COVID 19
