Mō Tēnei Tūranga Mahi | About the Role 

We have a permanent part time position in Foundation Pathways for a Kaiako/Tutor to teach on our Level 4 Study and Employment Pathways programme. The role is suitable for either an Academic Staff Member or a Senior Academic Staff Member dependent on skills and experience. The position starts in January 2025 in preparation for teaching in semester 1.  

This role is 0.8 FTE and the appointing full-time salary for this role will be between $77,500 - $96,800 per annum dependent   on skills and experience. 

The kaiako/tutor role is based at Wintec within Te Kura Pūtake Me Ngā Mahi Whakaako, the Centre for Education and Foundation Pathways. You will be part of a team that promotes ākonga centred learning to enable students to pathway with confidence to degree level study or employment. You will be teaching primarily on the Te Tuapapa Hauora Health stream for Māori and Pacific ākonga. 

Key teaching responsibilities include:  

  • Teaching essential foundation academic study skills to level 4 ākonga  
  • Implementing effective teaching and learning strategies to support rangatiratanga and promote successful outcomes for students
  • A culturally responsive practice that reflects Te Ao Māori, Matauranga Māori, Pacific worldviews and pedagogy

To be successful in this role you will have: 

  • A bachelor’s degree or post-graduate qualification in a relevant field such as education, health, Māori and Indigenous studies
  • Teaching experience or adult education qualification
  • Passion for ākonga centred education and competence in curriculum development and academic processes. 
  • Expertise in strategies that support whanaungatanga me te manaakitanga 
  • A professional attitude and well-developed interpersonal skills and enthusiasm for team collaboration
