Join our passionate and supportive Sport & Health team as an Academic Staff Member (Sport), where you’ll play a key role in preparing ākonga for careers across sport, exercise, and physical activity contexts in Aotearoa New Zealand.
This is a full-time teaching-focused role with a primary emphasis on sport and exercise, supported by strong foundations in human anatomy, and applied exercise prescription. You’ll contribute mainly to our Sport Diploma programmes and selected university pathway papers, with scope to support wider programme areas aligned to your expertise and departmental needs.
Your teaching will be applied, learner-centred, and industry-informed—bringing theory to life in ways that reflect the realities of sport, coaching, exercise, and community physical activity settings. You’ll also contribute to programme quality through assessment design and marking, resource development, moderation processes, and continuous improvement. Some travel between campuses within our rohe may be required.
Ngā mahi | Key Responsibilities
· Develop and present effective learning resources using sound pedagogy and instructional design.
· Update course documents using Toi Ohomai templates, ensuring alignment with programme and qualification outcomes.
· Apply subject and teaching expertise to continuously review and improve courses, programmes, and learning materials.
· Engage with industry, learners, moderators, and subject experts to gather feedback and keep course content current.
· Create contextualised teaching resources with embedded literacy and numeracy to meet learner and course needs.
· Stay up to date with all Toi Ohomai, NZQA, and TEC requirements relating to programme delivery.

· Relevant postgraduate qualification(s) in Sport and/Health
· Relevant industry experience
· A high level of professional and ethical conduct
· Ability to be self-motivating and able to work effectively both individually and within a team
