Mō Tēnei Tūranga Mahi | About the Role

We are seeking a Part-Time (0.3 FTE) Permanent Academic Learning Advisor – Māori to provide evidence-based academic learning support, advice, and guidance to ākonga across all levels and disciplines. This role plays an important part in enhancing learner confidence, competence, and independence while supporting academic success, retention, and achievement.

The role is based in Tairāwhiti and reporting to the Student Support Services Manager, you will:

  • Provide academic learning support to ākonga in both English and Te Reo Māori.
  • Deliver workshops and develop resources that strengthen academic skills and learner success.
  • Support ākonga with study skills, academic writing, literacy, numeracy, digital literacy, referencing, and research skills.
  • Work collaboratively with academic and support teams to provide a holistic learner experience.
  • Use learner data and insights to identify opportunities for early intervention and continuous improvement.

The appointing salary for this role will be between $68,534 and $74,126 per annum, pro-rated to 0.3 FTE, dependent on skills and experience.

The Academic Learning Advisor – Māori is based in Student Support Services, reporting to the Student Support Services Manager, and will be responsible for:

  • Providing academic learning support to ākonga across all levels and disciplines in both English and Te Reo Māori.
  • Developing and delivering academic skills workshops, learning resources, and training sessions for ākonga and teaching staff.
  • Using data and learner insights to identify ākonga at academic risk and implement early interventions to support achievement and success.
  • Collaborating with Library and Learning Services, academic teams, and support services to provide integrated and holistic learner support.
  • Monitoring, evaluating, and continuously improving academic learning support services to meet changing learner needs.

He kōrero mōu | About You

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Proven experience providing academic support across diverse learner groups, disciplines, and learning needs.
  • Demonstrated capability to support ākonga undertaking assessment in Te Reo Māori and to develop and deliver resources and workshops in both English and Te Reo Māori.
  • Strong knowledge of, and confidence engaging with, Te Ao Māori and Mātauranga Māori.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with a wide range of learners and colleagues.
  • Strong digital capability, including experience using learning platforms, assistive technologies, and content creation tools.
  • A relevant degree qualification and a commitment to inclusive education and learner success.
