About the role    

We’re looking for a talented and skilled AWS Cloud Engineer to join our Cloud Platform Team in Wellington.

With much of our infrastructure now migrated to the cloud, we’re focused on modernising our banking applications and continuing to evolve our cloud environment. Our team plays a key role in ensuring the operational performance, security, stability, and protection of the Bank’s cloud and hybrid on-premise environments. We’re passionate about leveraging cloud‑native solutions to enhance our architecture, improve efficiency, and reduce costs.

As a Cloud Engineer, you’ll be a key player in shaping the future of our core banking platform. You’ll use your expertise—particularly in AWS—to design, build, and operationalise secure, scalable infrastructure that supports our banking operations.

You’ll be involved across the full lifecycle of our cloud environment, from initial design and implementation through to ongoing enhancement and optimisation of existing solutions. Your contribution will be critical in ensuring our platforms remain reliable, high performing, and secure, enabling the Bank to continue innovating and delivering exceptional service to our customers.

We’re looking for someone who thrives in a collaborative team environment and is passionate about delivering robust, high-quality solutions. 

You’ll bring the following experience to the table: 

Extensive experience (5+ years) designing, developing, and supporting complex enterprise AWS environments, with a particular focus on:

  • DevOps, SRE, or Platform Engineering
  • Observability, monitoring & logging
  • Rapid and methodical issue diagnosis and resolution CI/CD pipelines and containerised deployments
  • Proactive prevention of operational issues and risk mitigation through the building of resilient systems

Hands on experience with:

  • AWS Cloud computing and infrastructure technologies
  • Scripting/Coding languages - PowerShell, Bash, C#, Python
  • Infrastructure as code - Terraform is a must, CloudFormation also desirable
  • Experience with source control, ideally git
  • Cloud automation toolsets including Azure DevOps, CI/CD Pipelines, TeamCity

On the job experience delivering results within an Agile development framework

Experience working in a multi-talented and cross-functional teams

Proven experience in delivering large projects with tight deadlines

Excellent verbal and written communication
