We are seeking a motivated and professional individual to join our team as an Access and Customer Services Officer - Port Security.

This critical frontline role is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of our port facility while maintaining compliance with Maritime NZ, Customs, and international security requirements. You will be the first point of contact for many port users, playing a key role in delivering excellent customer service while upholding strict security standards.

About You:

  • Access & Security Experience: Background in access control, security, or related fields.
  • Customer-Focused: You excel at understanding and meeting customer needs with professionalism.
  • Safety and Security Savvy: Awareness of and commitment to regulatory frameworks, including health, safety, and security requirements.
  • Adaptable Communicator: Skilled in engaging with people from diverse backgrounds, both verbally and in writing.
  • Team Player: Collaborative approach with the ability to build positive relationships and support colleagues.
  • Full Driver Licence: You must hold a current full, unrestricted New Zealand driver licence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maritime Security Compliance: Monitor and control access to the port facility.
  • Security Perimeter Checks: Conduct regular patrols and inspections to ensure restricted areas are secure and detect and report potential breaches.
  • Harbour Control: Communicate effectively with vessels via Marine VHF radio to support safe and efficient port operations.
  • Port User Enquiries: Respond to and process enquiries promptly, providing clear information and assistance to port users.
  • Safety Culture: Actively contribute to and promote a strong health, safety, and security culture across the port environment.

Role Details:

Position: Full-time permanent role
Hours: Minimum 40 hours per week
Schedule: Rotating roster (day/night/weekend shifts)

Napier Port operates in a 24/7 environment, and this team provides continuous coverage across three rotating shifts. The successful candidate must be available and able to work across all rostered shifts, including nights, weekends, and public holidays as required.
