About the role

We are seeking an enthusiastic Legal Counsel to join our small but mighty legal team. You’d be joining a team highly regarded by the business, and recognised as finalists in 3 categories at this year’s ILANZ Awards, including small in-house team of the year 2024.  

As part of our small, dynamic legal team, you will handle diverse tasks ranging from contract negotiation, compliance, intellectual property, to corporate governance. You will primarily support Catalyst’s NZ companies, Catalyst.Net Ltd (software services) and Catalyst Cloud (public cloud services), as well as our international subsidiaries. Your focus will be on commercial transactional work, supporting our software development and support business, with exposure to corporate matters for the Group companies, boards, and shareholders. You will also help lead initiatives to improve and simplify legal and contractual management within the business.

This role offers the flexibility of full or part-time work (32 hours a week), depending on experience. More importantly, we value cultural fit, motivation, and personality over ticking all the right experience boxes.
 

About you

  • 5-8+ years’ + PQE
     
  • Background in general corporate/commercial law
     
  • In-house experience, some exposure to technology, with a current NZ legal practising certificate
     
  • Ability to simplify complex legal concepts and contribute to commercial strategy
     
  • People-oriented, empathetic, with a sense of humor and strong interpersonal skills
     
  • Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and/or willingness to develop knowledge of Tikanga and Te Ao Māori
