At BestStart Ōmokoroa, our curriculum is a play-based tamariki lead curriculum, guided by the NZ ECE curriculum Te Whāriki, Te tiriti o Waitangi and Te Pūtiki wharenui a Tamatea 2020. This is fixed-term position working 20 hours per week until 11th October 2024.

About the Role: 

BestStart Omokoroa is seeking a dedicated Early Childhood Teacher Aide to join our team. The successful candidate will assist the Head teacher in creating a safe, nurturing and stimulating learning environment for children. You will assist teachers in maintaining a safe and clean environment and observe and monitor children's behaviour and progress, and report any concerns to the Head teacher. A large part of this role is providing support to children during activities, meals, and rest periods and fostering positive relationships with parents and families. 

This role will be supporting our teaching team with some diverse learners, at times this will mean being able to cover our permanent teachers to have time with the children, but to also support the child directly through routines and their play. Here’s what you’ll do on a day-to day basis: 

  • Provide amazing care and education to our tamariki 
  • Champion the team spirit and engage in activities that empower and extend tamariki’s learning 
  • Fully participate in centre activities across all classrooms and cover staff breaks where necessary 
  • Support centre operations at all levels  

Role requirements:

Commit to making a difference in the lives of young learners with a team dedicated to excellence. An ECE qualification is not required for this role, but a natural affinity with children – especially infants and toddlers, and experience working with children under five is a must. You’ll also have a high level of initiative and an ability to take direction from others.
