The Horizons region extends over 22,200km2 – from Ruapehu in the north and Horowhenua in the south, to Whanganui in the west and Tararua in the east. Our purpose is to work with and for our community in the use and the protection of our environment, managing our precious resources of land, air and water; as well as public transport and a key role in emergency management. The role 

We are currently seeking a Biodiversity Advisor Community to work alongside our small but dynamic biodiversity team inspiring people throughout the Region to engage with our region’s biodiversity. 

This permanent position, based in Kairanga, will provide a mix of office and field based work throughout our region, working with a wide variety of people. 

The Horizons community biodiversity programme is focused on empowering communities to reconnect with, and improve biodiversity. This position is actively involved in the management of Tōtara Reserve Regional Park, assisting with the delivery of a multi-agency biodiversity programmes and a contestable fund assisting groups with their community biodiversity projects across the Region. The role also provides support to Horizons’ wider biodiversity programme.

About you

Do you have a passion for biodiversity and love supporting people with their projects?

If you are passionate about indigenous biodiversity, are adept at sharing knowledge and inspiring others, and enjoy being part of a collaborative team - this may be a great role for you.

Skills and experience in organising events and engaging communities are essential, as is an understanding of ecological processes. Suitable candidates will hold a Bachelor of Science or similar tertiary qualification in addition to relevant industry experience. Experience in preparing public relations material is desirable.

A full New Zealand drivers’ licence is essential.
